A group of around 40 people surrounded the Brussels police on Friday night at around 22:30 in the Matonge district of the Brussels municipality of Ixelles during an operation targeting suspected drug dealers.
The incident occurred near the Chaussée de Wavre and Rue Francart in Ixelles. The suspects attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended.
Approximately 40 individuals surrounded the police patrol during the operation. "They emerged from a nearby gallery and threw glass bottles and rubbish at the officers," said police spokeswoman Ilse Van de Keere. "The situation became tense, necessitating the use of tear gas to maintain order."
The police arrested three individuals in total. Several reports were also filed for resisting arrest and drug possession. No injuries were reported during the incident.
