Frédéric Cesar won the annual Belgian Christmas tree throwing championship on Saturday evening with a throw of 10.42 metres.
A total of 800 people participated, including 187 children. The championship featured 26 teams competing against each other.
In addition, 566 individuals attempted to become the Christmas tree thrower of the year, with a notable number of children participating this year.
Each thrown Christmas tree’s landing spot was accurately measured by an official jury.
"What started as a neighbourhood event to end the festive season and replace the traditional Christmas tree burning has now become a sporty and sociable family event," said Samuel Serck, the chairman of the non-profit organisation Motum and the organiser of the championship.
“Despite the very chilly temperatures, it was a Belgian championship full of atmosphere and warmth, a fitting end to the festive season,” he added.
Andy Hannon’s 2019 record of 10.77 metres remains unbeaten.
