Fog will form across large parts of Belgium on Tuesday night, including in Brussels. Visibility will remain limited until after the morning rush hour, so caution is advised on the roads.

"Overnight, it will remain cloudy with occasional light drizzle," the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) said. "This drizzle may temporarily freeze, causing slippery roads in the Ardennes. There is also a chance of fog forming," it added. This is a dangerous combination for drivers.

The fog is expected from 02:00 and will remain until 10:00 on Wednesday. "There will be low clouds, mist and fog. In many areas, visibility may be limited to 200 metres," the RMI warned.

Foggy conditions make driving more dangerous and challenging, especially during the morning rush hour. The severity of accidents tends to be higher than in normal conditions. Therefore, reduced visibility requires extra caution and appropriate driving behaviour.

The highway code states drivers should leave a sufficient distance from the vehicle in front. Fog lights should also be used where visibility is less than 200 metres.

After this foggy morning, Wednesday will remain grey and sometimes foggy with an occasional light drizzle. "Especially in the Ardennes, there may be persistent fog above the melting snow cover." The weather will be milder with maxima between 2°C and 9°C. This will continue throughout the evening and night.

Thursday will initially be grey with a chance of more localised fog banks. However, clearings will appear during the day.
