Around 40 individuals were arrested on Saturday in the Northern Quarter by officers from the Brussels North police district during a large-scale administrative and enforcement operation on rue d’Aerschot.
Approximately 80 police officers participated in the operation, which occurred without incident, according to a statement released on Saturday evening by the Brussels North police zone, which includes Schaerbeek, Evere, and Saint-Josse-ten-Noode.
The operation aimed to enhance security in the Northern Quarter, where 39 people were administratively detained. Police focused their efforts on a particularly problematic stretch of rue d’Aerschot, known for violent crimes such as robbery and drug trafficking.
To better tackle crime in the area, officers sought to obtain a clearer understanding of the individuals present in the neighbourhood. The operation helped verify and update police information, advancing several ongoing judicial investigations.
Daily patrols and various security operations will continue, including those involving the Public Transport Security Brigade, the Canine Brigade, and the Support Team of the Brussels North Police.
Two previous operations targeting the Northern Quarter, described as a “hotspot,” were deemed highly successful by the police. These past operations resulted in 415 administrative and judicial arrests between 15 October and 15 December.
