The Brussels Philharmonic and jazz star Bill Frisell are in the running for a Grammy Award at Monday’s ceremony in Los Angeles, California.

They are nominated for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for “Orchestras (Live)”, conducted by Alexander Hanson and released by Blue Note. Frisell, along with bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Rudy Royston, collaborated with the Brussels Philharmonic for one disc and the Umbria Jazz Orchestra for the other.

According to the Belgian orchestra, this nomination acknowledges the album and the broader collaboration that brought it to life. Jazz Meets Symphonic, a joint venture between the Brussels Philharmonic, Muziekcentrum De Bijloke in Ghent, and Flagey, has paired jazz legends with the symphony since 2016.

American singer Beyoncé leads the Grammy Awards this year with 11 nominations for her album “Cowboy Carter”, which blends country, pop, hip hop, and soul. Beyoncé, 43, has been nominated for the Grammys 99 times, surpassing the record held by her husband, Jay-Z. She has won 32 awards previously but has never clinched the title of “Best Album” or “Best Record”, achievements she hopes to secure this year.

The 67th Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on Monday (02:00 – 05:30 Belgian time) at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Comedian Trevor Noah will host the event for the fifth consecutive year. The ceremony will honour producer Quincy Jones, who passed away last November at the age of 91 and won 28 Grammy Awards in his career. Funds will also be raised to support victims of the fires that have struck Los Angeles and the surrounding region this year.
