The new Federal Government led by Prime Minister Bart De Wever (N-VA) held its first Council of Ministers on Tuesday morning. Later in the day, the brand new PM will make his policy statement in parliament.

The first Council of Ministers of the De Wever government started around 08:30 on Tuesday. Besides getting acquainted and preparing the government declaration on Tuesday afternoon, a number of substantive items are already on the agenda.

Defence Minister Theo Francken (N-VA), for instance, immediately put on the agenda the withdrawal of the service exemption for military personnel participating in the 13 February union action. That measure was approved by his predecessor Ludivine Dedonder (PS).

The first Council of Ministers did not last very long because De Wever was expected back at the Royal Palace at 10:00 in Brussels for the annual New Year's address to the representatives of the various Belgian governments.
