Seven Dutch nationals suspected of smuggling drugs out of the port of Antwerp have been arrested over the past two nights, the Antwerp Public Prosecutor’s Office reported on Friday.

The initial arrests occurred between Wednesday night and Thursday. Three individuals were apprehended after climbing over a fence.

They were found with flashlights and empty sports bags, which authorities believe were intended for transporting drugs.

On the night from Thursday to Friday, four young men, including two minors, were spotted on the port premises. An investigation has been launched.

Preliminary findings suggest the suspects might have attempted to retrieve part of a cocaine shipment from Panama, intercepted by customs.
