Pierre-Yves Dermagne, the leader of the Socialist Party (PS) in the Chamber of Representatives, called on Prime Minister Bart De Wever on Saturday to release secret agreements made by the Arizona coalition, particularly the one concerning capital gains tax.
Georges-Louis Bouchez, the president of the Reformist Movement (MR), stated in interviews with De Tijd and De Morgen on Saturday that he possesses a handwritten document asserting that individuals who hold their shares for ten years will be exempt from capital gains tax.
“We spent over forty hours in the Chamber debating the new government agreement. We extensively questioned the Finance Minister about the specifics of the capital gains tax. Now, we hear a party president in the majority claim he has a signed document interpreting this part of the capital gains tax agreement from the Prime Minister. This interpretive clause was concealed from us. We demand that the Prime Minister produce this document and any other secret agreements from the Arizona coalition,” Dermagne stressed.
The socialist MP also criticised the content of the agreement as described by the MR president. “Once again, the wealthiest will escape while the middle class is asked to foot the bill,” Dermagne remarked.
