A shooting at Clemenceau metro station in Anderlecht on Saturday evening left one person dead, despite a reinforced police presence just seventy metres away, according to Mayor Fabrice Cumps.
“This indicates that these criminals stop at nothing,” said Mayor Cumps. “We must continue to maintain our presence in the area, but that alone is insufficient. We need to intensify judicial investigations to dismantle the networks and catch those pulling the strings.”
The Brussels public prosecutor’s office is currently on the scene, and the investigation has been handed over to the federal police. Efforts to locate the perpetrators are underway.
It is not yet clear if there is a connection to recent shootings linked to drug trafficking, according to the public prosecutor’s office. In the interest of the ongoing investigation, no further comments will be provided.
