Last night was the coldest recorded this winter in Belgium

Last night the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) in Uccle recorded was the coldest of the meteorological winter so far. equalling the night of 13 to 14 January.

The temperature in Uccle dropped to -4°C. The lowest temperature was recorded in Elsenborn, in the East Cantons, where it fell to -11.7°C. It was even colder in Elsenborn on the night of 13-14 January, with the mercury dropping to -15.6°C.

"Temperatures were negative everywhere last night, even in the port of Zeebrugge. There was a general frost overnight," said David Dehenauw, head of weather forecasting at the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI).

It may still freeze slightly tonight, but it will get warmer thereafter. The temperature might approach freezing again at the end of the month.

According to the meteorologist, this was likely the coldest night of the meteorological winter (December-February), equalling the cold January night.
