A man suspected of fatally stabbing his wife on Sunday night in a residence in Marcinelle (Charleroi) has been charged for voluntary manslaughter.
The Charleroi Prosecutor’s Office announced it on early Wednesday afternoon. Police and emergency services had intervened around 22:00 on Sunday at a house on Rue des Champs in Marcinelle, Hainaut province.
The lifeless body of a woman born in 1996 was discovered at the scene with multiple stab wounds.
Following the incident, the husband, born in 1993, attempted to flee and caused a road accident. He was hospitalised and taken into custody on suspicion of homicide.
Once his condition allowed it, police questioned the man before presenting him to an investigating judge.
On Tuesday, the judge charged and placed him under arrest for voluntary manslaughter, confirmed the Charleroi prosecutor’s office on Wednesday.
The judicial authority declined to comment on the suspect’s statements to the judge.
