Almost 18,000 animals found new homes last year through the website adopteereendier.be, which collects animals available for adoption from 150 recognised shelters in Flanders, according to De Zondag.
Kittens were the most popular, with 12,337 adoptions. Dogs followed with 2,659 adoptions. Rabbits and rodents accounted for 1,612 adoptions. Farm animals made up 739 adoptions.
Currently, more than 2,350 animals are still seeking new homes.
