Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has invited Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever to visit Kyiv.
The invitation was extended during a phone call between the two leaders on Tuesday. The conversation was supposed to take place last week but was postponed on the Ukrainian side.
According to the Prime Minister's spokesperson, De Wever will accept the invitation at an appropriate time.
Newly appointed Minister of Defence Theo Francken (N-VA) has already indicated that he wants to go to Kyiv with the Prime Minister as soon as possible. He said this after a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umjerov in Brussels earlier this month.
On Tuesday, De Wever reiterated Belgian support for Ukraine, stating that it will not agree to a peace deal concluded over the heads of Ukraine and Europe.
Zelenskyy is likely to attend the European Council meeting in Brussels on 6 March. The extra summit will discuss both European and Ukrainian defence.
A bilateral meeting is scheduled between Zelenskyy and De Wever during this trip.
