Belgium's Interior Ministry has activated the 1722 hotline and the 1722.be online portal for non-urgent firefighter interventions ahead of possible storms or flooding.

The move comes on the heels of a yellow rain alert issued by the Royal Meteorological Institute from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday morning for the Province of Luxembourg, where 20 to 30 litres per m2 of rainfall is expected over 12 hours.

The 1722 hotline aims to keep emergency lines free by handling non-urgent calls related to storm or water damage. For life-threatening situations, callers should use the emergency number 112.

The Ministry strongly recommends using the 1722.be online portal for non-urgent requests. This method directly forwards the request to firefighters, whereas calls to 1722 are first handled by emergency operators.
