A 57-year-old man from Affligem, in Flemish Brabant, died in a paragliding accident in Morocco on Monday, according to a local media report relayed by VRT on Wednesday.

An investigation has been launched. The Belgian Foreign Ministry confirmed that it is following the case with its embassy in Rabat but provided no further details.

The tourist was in the Tiznit province with friends to go paragliding, a popular destination for enthusiasts of the sport. For reasons still unknown, the flight went wrong, and the man fell.

According to the local newspaper Hiba Press, the local prosecutor visited the scene and opened an investigation, and the man’s body was taken to a nearby hospital.

VRT reports that the man is survived by his wife and two children.
