Staff at the Flemish transport operator De Lijn are set to join a "day of action" on 12 March with the joint union front, the company announced on Friday. Disruptions of transport services are expected across Flanders.
The strike was organised by the trade unions out of concern over the new work schedule set to take effect in July 2025. In particular, unions have underscored how irregular working hours will negatively affect the personal lives of De Lijn drivers.
Fewer buses and trams will be operating throughout Flanders on Wednesday 12 March. Options for alternative services will be available from Monday 10 March on the De Lijn's website.
Passengers are advised to use the online route planner or the app to plan their trips.
The route planner will not include any trips that are no longer running. Affected trips will be indicated on the online "stop" and "lines" pages of the website. The transport company warns that any rides with a "no tracking information" message are likely to not be operational.
De Lijn further warns that there can be communication delays regarding updates of the action on the day.
The transport company remarked that "constructive consultation" is ongoing between the management and union representatives.
