The Belgian train drivers' union ASTB-SACT, which is a smaller union in the railways, has major strike plans for the coming months, the union announced on social media.

The Autonomous Union of Train Drivers wants to strike for six days in April and two weeks per month from May, as politicians "remain deaf" to the railway unions, despite the various strikes that have already taken place in recent weeks.

"Stop ignoring us, time for action," they said.

Concretely, ASTB-SACT wants to strike for six consecutive days in April. The exact dates have not yet been announced. From May, there would be a two-week strike every month, in July and August, they would strike every Friday and Saturday.

More strikes

Together with the OVS union, ASTB-SACT already took part in a nine-day strike in February.

Other railway unions have also gone on strike; Monday saw another strike by the largest unions, ACOD Spoor and ACV-Transcom.

The unions are protesting against austerity measures and interventions on the retirement age that the Federal Government is planning, for example.

On Sunday evening, a new seven-day strike will start, which is an initiative by the small union Metisp-Protect. This will be immediately followed by a new strike by ACOD Spoor and ACV-Transcom on 31 March, following a national strike day.
