Belgium has been experiencing a rare spell of sunny weather in recent weeks. The warm temperatures will peak on Friday, with up to 22°C forecast.

While much of southern Europe has been experiencing non-stop rain for weeks, Belgium has been basking in the sun. Wednesday is another sunny and mild day, with temperatures of around 13°C in the High Fens in southern Belgium and up to 18°C in the centre and northeast of the country, the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) said.

"A southerly current will continue to bring dry but also milder air to our country," it noted on its website. The nighttime will remain cold. On Wednesday evening and night, minimum temperatures will fluctuate between 0°C and 7°C.

Thursday will be sunny, but some medium-high cloud fields will also pass over the country. "Some rain is not completely out of the question," the RMI noted. Temperatures will continue to rise, with highs of 15°C in southern Belgium and up to 19°C in the centre and northeast of the country.

Friday will be even warmer, with highs of 18°C in the High Ardennes and 22°C in the Kempen, in northeast Belgium. However, there will be more high clouds, especially in the south. On Friday evening and night, showers will move across the country from the south.
