A gas cylinder exploded inside a vehicle on Kaulillerweg in Bocholt, Limburg Province, around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
The driver had just filled a camping-gas cylinder at a petrol station and placed it in his vehicle. He then got into the vehicle and lit a cigarette, causing the explosion.
Part of the roof was blown off by the blast. A medical team provided the man with initial care before taking him to hospital. Fortunately, his injuries were relatively minor.
The Bree fire brigade also arrived at the scene to assist.
Police from the Carma zone (Genk, As, Oudsbergen, Houthalen-Helchteren, Bree, Bocholt, Kinrooi) conducted the necessary investigations.
