A minute of silence was held at Brussels Airport’s departure hall on Saturday at exactly 7:58 to commemorate the victims of the March 22, 2016, attacks.
Today marks nine years since two Islamic State terrorists detonated bombs in the departure hall of Zaventem Airport. The first bomb exploded near a Starbucks branch at 7:58. Nine seconds later, a second bomb went off at the Brussels Airlines check-in counter. A third man fled after failing to detonate his bomb.
A solemn ceremony took place on Saturday to remember the attack’s victims. Flowers were laid at the memorial plaque in the departure hall, and mourners paused to pay their respects. The names of the sixteen victims were read aloud.
