Brussels Metro lines 2 and 6 have been disrupted for the second time on Monday, with Porte de Hal station having been evacuated.

Both Metro lines are down between Trône and Brussels-Midi due to smoke that was detected in the metro tunnel near Porte de Hal.

The Porte de Hal station has been evacuated and public transport operator STIB/MIVB called firefighters to the scene. Firefighter spokesperson Walter Derieuw said an overheated cable caused the smoke.

"Everything is under control, but now a technical team is checking if there is any damage before allowing to the metro to start running again," a STIB/MIVB spokesperson told The Brussels Times.

Metro lines 2 and 6 were also disrupted between Porte de Hal and Simonis earlier on Monday due to a technical issue but the problem was quickly resolved by the public transport operator.
