The fourth edition of the Spring Festival, a seven-day celebration of classical music with international orchestras and soloists, begins on Monday at the historic Handelsbeurs in Antwerp.

For the first time, the festival will feature an “ensemble in residence,” namely the Susato Trio.

The Flemish trio, comprising violinist Sarah Bayens, cellist Mikko Pablo, and pianist Markiyan Popil, will perform multiple times at the Handelsbeurs during the Spring Festival.

Their performances will include works by Schubert, intertwined with Shakespeare’s sonnets narrated by Stefaan Degand, and they will headline the closing concert with ‘Beethoven Spirituoso,’ featuring Beethoven’s Triple Concerto and Seventh Symphony.

The festival opens on Monday with ‘Echoes of Italy,’ blending Mozart with Italian influences. The Casco Phil orchestra, conducted by Benjamin Haemhouts, and violinist Abigél Králik will perform.

In the following days, the festival will also host Germany’s Luca Sestak Trio, the Orchestre National de Lille (France), Welsh soprano Camilla Roberts, Polish pianist Tymoteusz Bies, and fado singer Maria Emilia.
