A 15-year-old cyclist was critically injured in a collision with a car in Londerzeel on Monday evening, according to the Halle-Vilvoorde Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The accident occurred at around 18:00 on Kouterbaan, near the intersection with Herbodin.
"The cyclist was riding on the bike path of Kouterbaan towards Malderen, while the 40-year-old driver of the car was travelling in the same direction on the roadway," said the prosecutor’s spokesperson Ingrid Moriau.
"At the intersection with Herbodin, the car was going straight while the cyclist attempted to turn left and collided with the right side of the vehicle."
Emergency services arrived quickly, and the cyclist was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The prosecutor’s office has not provided any further updates on his condition.
"The car’s driver passed a breathalyser test, and a traffic expert has been appointed to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident," the spokesperson added.
