The Belgian Ministry for Foreign Affairs will adjust its travel advice for the United States.
The change follows similar actions by countries such as Germany, Finland, and Denmark. The revision is prompted by the altered circumstances for LGBTQ+ individuals in the US.
Belgium’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs and its embassies and consulates are closely monitoring the situation. The current travel guidance already warns of varying attitudes towards LGBTQ+ persons which can differ by state. More information is available on the Human Rights Campaign website.
The travel advice update is still being developed. The modification is necessary due to "the general tightening of border controls" in the US.
It will also address the changing attitudes towards transgender individuals and the LGBTQ+ community, along with the challenges they might face while travelling to the United States.
The Belgian Ministry for Foreign Affairs is taking into account the advice from other EU Member States to ensure consistency.
