Tuna steak sold in Carrefour since last Saturday has been recalled due to the presence of histamine.

The Federal Agency for Food Chain Safety (FASFC) recalled the tuna steak on Tuesday. The product has been sold in the fish department of supermarket Carrefour since last Saturday and has a best-before date of 29 March.

The steak has been recalled because it contains histamine, a chemical that can cause toxic infection. This occurs as an acute allergy between half an hour and several hours after consumption.

Possible symptoms of this include redness, a swollen face, headache, a feeling of heat and discomfort. This is accompanied by digestive problems such as nausea, vomiting and sometimes diarrhoea.

Contact doctor if consumed

FASFC says people with allergies should be extra vigilant because they can also show acute respiratory problems. They should not eat the product under any circumstances and should contact the emergency services immediately if these symptoms occur.

Consumers who have eaten the product with lot number 4028 and who show symptoms are requested to contact their doctor.

For all additional information, you can contact the customer service of Carrefour Belgium on the free number 0800/9.10.11. This is available on working days from 08:30 to 20:00 from Monday to Saturday.
