Two new Polish monuments were unveiled on Wednesday at the Mini-Europe theme park in Laeken, Brussels.

Mini-Europe sits just next to the Atomium in Laeken. On Tuesday, it added the famous monuments 'Palace on the Isle' and 'Monument of Chopin' to its collection.

These monuments pay tribute to the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin and are located in Łazienki Park in Warsaw.

They were unveiled to mark Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union this year.

In 2004, two monuments from Gdańsk, the 'Artus Court' and the 'Memorial to the dockworkers who died in 1970', were also inaugurated when Poland joined the European Union.

'The capital of all Europeans'

"At Mini-Europe, we try to emphasise what brings Europeans together," said Mini-Europe director Vincianne Meeus at the ceremony on Tuesday. "We can see that we have a common history, culture and heritage, and that all countries have influenced each other."

Brussels mayor Philippe Close (PS) was also present at the inauguration. His speech referred to the current political situation in Europe.

"It is a time when Europe is facing many challenges," he said. "The war in Ukraine reminds us how important it is to be united. We must pay tribute to everything that Poland does to help our Ukrainian friends. Thanks to Poland, we can send medical supplies to Ukraine. But we also underline the fact that Brussels is the capital of all Europeans."
