Russia and Ukraine have agreed to halt hostilities in the Black Sea, the White House announced on Tuesday in two separate statements.
The statements follow working group discussions held in Saudi Arabia.
Both countries agreed to "ensure the safety of navigation, eliminate the use of force and prevent the use of commercial vessels for military purposes in the Black Sea," according to the US Government, which acted as an intermediary during these negotiations.
In addition, they pledged to prevent the use of commercial ships for military purposes in the Black Sea, according to US administration.
Regarding Ukraine, the US also committed to "support efforts toward prisoner exchanges, the release of civilians and the return of forcibly displaced Ukrainian children."
Russia, which is the target of numerous sanctions, can count on the support of the White House to "restore Russia's access to the global market for agricultural and fertiliser exports, reduce marine insurance costs and improve access to ports and payment systems for these transactions."
During the talks, the US "reiterated that President Donald Trump's imperative is to put an end to the killings on both sides." Washington "will continue to organise negotiations between the two parties in order to find a peaceful outcome," according to an identical paragraph in both statements.
The US administration also expressed its "gratitude" to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
