Abdenor R. (27), nicknamed 'Schaduw', was sentenced to an additional seven years in prison by the Antwerp Criminal Court on Wednesday for ordering several explosive attacks in Antwerp from prison.

He was previously sentenced to six years' imprisonment for similar offences in 2023. An intermediary and three perpetrators were sentenced to between four and seven years' imprisonment.

Two attacks took place on 12 and 13 May 2022 in Deurne, near Antwerp, outside the home of the E.B. family. They are thought to have been aimed at the son Mounir 'Gino' E.B., an escaped drug lord who has been convicted several times.

On 1 June 2022, fireworks were set off at the home of the family of kickboxer Jamal Ben Saddik in Borgerhout. Several houses and vehicles were damaged and five people were taken to hospital with minor hearing damage. Shortly afterwards, fireworks were also thrown at the home of another family in Berchem.

During the investigation into the first attack in Deurne, the police found a Volkswagen Polo with Dutch registration plate. This was the car belonging to the girlfriend of Jurriaan H. (29). He confessed to having committed the attack on 12 May to repay a debt. Ayoub A. (25) had approached him on the orders of Abdenor R., who was in prison.

'Schaduw' had a mobile phone in his cell and was in contact with Ayoub A. via the Signal messaging application. He gave him list of addresses of competitors to target. Ayoub A. then looked for the perpetrators and provided them with the necessary fireworks.

Abdenor R. was reportedly not satisfied with the first attack on the E.B. family in Deurne, so Khalid S. (21) and Samir H. were ordered by him to set off fireworks again the following day. The Kia Picanto, registered in the Netherlands, in which the criminals were travelling was intercepted by the police.

The investigation then revealed that Abdenor R. had also ordered the attacks in Borgerhout and Berchem.
