A bus from the Flemish public transport company De Lijn was caught speeding at 77 km/h in a 50 zone in Leuven on Saturday evening, according to the local police.
The police conducted speed checks at three locations in Leuven on Saturday. One of these locations was Tiensesteenweg, where the bus was caught speeding around midnight. The bus, travelling towards Leuven on the bus lane, was not in service at the time.
The recorded speed of 77 km/h was the highest noted by the police on Tiensesteenweg. A total of 352 vehicles were checked at this location, with 23 found to be speeding.
At the other two locations, Tervuursesteenweg and Naamsesteenweg, 754 vehicles were inspected in total. On Tervuursesteenweg, 114 vehicles were speeding, with the highest speed being 54 km/h in a 30 zone. On Naamsesteenweg, three vehicles were speeding, with the highest speed being 66 km/h in a 50 zone.
Additionally, the police conducted alcohol and drug checks on Tervuursevest and various other locations in Leuven. They stopped 578 drivers for checks. Five of these drivers were found to be over the alcohol limit, and one was under the influence of drugs. The driving licences of three individuals were suspended for 15 days.
