Italy's state-owned railway Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), which owns the railway company Trenitalia, announced a new high speed railway line on Monday.
The group plans to launch a high-speed connection between Paris and London by 2029 to compete with Eurostar, currently the sole operator using the Channel Tunnel.
The railway group plans to invest €1 billion in this project.
FS will provide the new service with trains inspired by the Frecciarossa, the high-speed train running on Italy’s high-speed network and between Paris, Lyon and Milan in France.
