The appeals chamber granted Paolo Falzone electronic monitoring on Friday, according to Sudinfo, with the news also covered by RTBF, RTL, and La DH.
On Monday, the appeals body had decided to send him back to the Hainaut assize court, requiring him to return to prison despite having been under electronic bracelet for a year and a half.
“There is no possibility of electronic detention if someone is referred to the assize court,” explained his lawyer, Me Discepoli, as quoted by Sudinfo. “The appeals chamber thus opted to send him back to prison. Following this, I filed a request for release and asked that he be granted electronic monitoring,” he added. This request was accepted.
On 20 March 2022, Paolo Falzone drove into a crowd participating in the Gilles collection during the Strépy carnival, killing seven people.
Paolo Falzone faces charges of seven murders and 80 attempted murders. His cousin, Antonino Falzone, is charged with failing to assist a person in danger, as he was a passenger.
