Fedasil's centre in Theux (Liège province), which has been accommodating asylum seekers since November 2024, closes today (14 April), according to a statement issued on Monday by the federal agency for asylum seekers.
The relocation of residents started several weeks ago, despite difficulties due to limited available spaces within the network, Fedasil noted.
Following the closure in Theux, all the places opened temporarily at the end of 2024 are now shut. The Theux centre housed up to 250 asylum seekers.
In total, the temporary accommodation organised by Fedasil provided approximately 750 places, accommodating all families during the winter period. The Fedasil centre in Bredene closed in mid-March, along with six youth centres in Flanders.
Fedasil prioritises families and women when allocating accommodation spaces. Single men must register on a waiting list and are invited progressively.
Currently, there are 2,600 men on the waiting list, many of whom are being temporarily housed in homeless centres in Brussels.
