A residence in the Wilrijk district of Antwerp was targeted by an explosive attack on Monday night, according to local police. One man has been taken into custody.
The explosion, which occurred shortly after midnight, caused extensive damage to the building's front door. However, no one was injured in the incident.
It is suspected that a heavy explosive was used in the incident. In addition to damaging the targeted building, the explosion also destroyed the door of the neighbouring property.
Local police were initially unable to locate any suspects. However, residents in the area had chased and stopped a young man they suspected was involved.
The police took the man into custody. An investigation is ongoing to determine if he was involved in the explosion and whether this attack is linked to drug-related activities in the Antwerp outskirts.
The army's explosive ordnance disposal service, Sedee, and police forensics arrived at the scene to collect evidence.
