A court in Leuven has sentenced three individuals to prison for stealing and reselling 1,833 kegs of beer from AB InBev in Leuven.
The thefts occurred between January 2019 and June 2022. One of the defendants was an employee of the brewery at the time.
Investigations revealed that the first defendant, a delivery driver for AB InBev, regularly added extra beer pallets to his truck and delivered them to the second defendant. The second defendant then sold the kegs to beverage dealers.
The court found that the two managed to steal 1,833 kegs of Jupiler and Stella, worth €274,950.
The first defendant received a two-year prison sentence, with one year suspended, due to the aggravating circumstance of breaching his employer's trust.
The second defendant was sentenced to 28 months in prison, with 14 months suspended, for handling stolen goods, money laundering, and abuse of corporate assets. Both men must compensate the brewery group €272,000.
The third defendant, who participated in the theft and also stole soft drinks, was sentenced in absentia to ten months in prison.
