The Women’s Committee for Undocumented Migrants has occupied an empty building on Chaussée d’Alsemberg in Forest to raise awareness on their rights.
The committee consists of around 40 undocumented women and their children.
“This committee is a space for struggle, solidarity, and resistance for migrant women in precarious administrative situations," the group said in a statement on Wednesday. "Faced with the injustices and violence they endure, these women gather to demand their rights, raise awareness of their realities, and deliver a strong collective message.”
Further, the committee criticised the exploitation of undocumented migrants by slumlords and the system that prevents them from working, securing housing, and living dignified lives.
“We are at the mercy of exploitation and slumlords, forced to endure brutal evictions, or temporary and often very precarious housing solutions, sometimes even sleeping on the streets,” the committee added, demanding housing for all.
