Due to a cyberattack, the digital services of the Walloon Government have been unavailable since Thursday evening. Software company Microsoft has been hired to resolve the situation, announced Walloon Minister-President Adrien Dolimont (MR).
It is not yet clear whether any data has been stolen in the attack. As a precautionary measure, the internet connections of Walloon civil servants were shut down. The government services were also taken offline.
The government has now appointed Microsoft to address the situation. This decision was made in consultation with Belgium's Cybersecurity Centre.
"Microsoft has the teams and experience to respond effectively," Dolimont said. "Work is already underway. We must act swiftly to regain control of our public services to minimise the long-term impact on all stakeholders."
