The Catholic Church of Belgium is organising a Eucharistic service on Thursday at the National Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Koekelberg, Brussels, to commemorate Pope Francis.
This was announced the Belgian Bishops’ Conference in a statement on Monday.
Archbishop Luc Terlinden, president of the Conference, will lead the service, at which he will be joined by other Belgian bishops. The event is scheduled for 7.00 p.m.
Additionally, a book of condolences will be opened in every cathedral across the country. The bishops have also requested that flags at all church buildings be flown at half-mast.
Many churches in Belgium have already rung their bells, the Bishops’ Conference added on Monday.
