The second round of talks between Ukraine and its Western partners, aimed at securing a ceasefire with Russia, will take place on Wednesday in London, a senior Ukrainian official told AFP on Tuesday, under conditions of anonymity.
On Monday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a Ukrainian delegation would travel to the British capital for discussions with American and European representatives.
While the composition of the delegation has not been confirmed, Ukrainian media suggest that Kyiv will be represented by the head of the Ukrainian Presidential Administration, Andriy Yermak, President Zelenskyy’s chief of staff, Pavlo Palissa, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, and Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.
President Zelenskyy expressed hope on Monday for an "unconditional ceasefire" with Russia, followed by "genuine and lasting peace" during these discussions, which began last week in an unprecedented format.
Ukrainian, American, French, and British representatives met in Paris last Thursday, marking the first meeting in this format, as negotiations for a ceasefire, initiated by Washington, have stalled, and Europeans seek to assert their influence after three years of Russian invasion.
However, the meeting did not result in any significant progress.
On his part, US President Donald Trump, who is also seeking peace between Ukrainians and Russians, expressed hope on Sunday for an agreement "this week," without providing further details.
On Monday, President Zelenskyy stated he expects a "clear response" from Russia to his proposal for a renewed truce, following an indication from Vladimir Putin that he would "analyse" the offer.
