The Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic (AWV) announced on Thursday that concrete guide blocks will be installed at the Léonard junction over the weekend of 9 to 12 May.
These blocks will be cast on-site, resulting in temporary closures of the Ring Tunnel (R0) and the ramp connecting Waterloo to Auderghem.
AWV’s work will be organised in multiple phases to minimise disruption. The project begins on Friday 9 May at 20:30, with the Léonard Tunnel (R0) closed in both directions until 05:00, as well as the ramp from Waterloo (R0) to Auderghem (E411).
On Saturday 10 May, the inner ring tunnel (direction Zaventem – Waterloo) will be closed from 05:00 to 23:30. The Waterloo to Auderghem ramp will also be inaccessible in both directions. The outer ring tunnel, towards Zaventem, will close at 20:30 until Sunday evening.
The outer ring will remain closed on Sunday 11 May until 23:30. Traffic on the inner ring and diversion will temporarily slow at around 20:30. The Auderghem – Waterloo link will close again at 20:30 until at the latest 15:00 on Monday 12 May.
Detours will be in place. Those usually using the inner ring can travel on the surface. Traffic from Waterloo towards Zaventem (R0) and Auderghem (E411) will be redirected via La Hulpe.
The concrete blocks will be placed between the traffic lane and the tunnel wall, serving as protection in case of collision. “They will provide safety for road users while also protecting the tunnel wall,” the AWV explained.
