Belgian postal company bpost has introduced a new, enhanced process for mailing funeral notices, ensuring that each notice is individually tracked and delivery is guaranteed, while keeping the same pricing.
At the core of this new system is an eye-catching red bag with a unique barcode to enable precise tracking of each mailing. This bag is delivered to the family by the funeral home, which then places the funeral notices inside and drops it off at any post office by 4 p.m. Stamps are not required.
The funeral notices are sent through a specially secured and expedited circuit within bpost to reach their destination. The company states that it can track where each notice is at any point and know when it will be delivered. Billing is done automatically through the funeral home.
During a four-month trial phase, bpost achieved an “almost perfect result” with the sent notices.
The improved system was developed in collaboration with industry federation Funebra, representing 700 funeral homes in Belgium.
