Christophe De Beukelaer, a leading figure in Les Engagés, has urged the MR party to take immediate action to break the deadlock in the formation of the Brussels government.
De Beukelaer argued that the financial situation of the region demonstrates the urgent need for a fully empowered government to replace the current provisional arrangements. He stated that the government’s lack of cohesion is increasingly evident.
The refusal of MR and PS to collaborate in Brussels is a significant obstacle to forming a majority government, he pointed out. "When the region’s two major parties refuse to sit at the same table, it’s no longer a playground, it’s a sandbox," he commented.
A minority government seems unviable to De Beukelaer, especially after the MR-Engagés-DéFI coalition lost two seats due to Fabian Maingain’s departure from DéFI and Latifa Aït Baala’s switch from MR to PS.
He noted, "We’re at a stage where it’s extremely difficult and DéFI’s agreement is essential."
De Beukelaer urged the MR to act within hours, stressing the urgency due to the impending two-week holiday in Francophone Belgium and the MR being the largest party in the Brussels Region.
