Hotel bookings at seaside locations are experiencing a surge at the start of the Walloon spring holiday, compared to last year.
The increase of 15% in bookings is attributed to the favourable weather and the extended weekend of 1 May during the first holiday week. Numerous last-minute bookings are also anticipated, according to data from Westtoer, the provincial tourism agency.
Following the Flemish Easter holiday, the school vacation in French-speaking Belgium begins on Saturday, 26 April and will last two weeks. Traditionally, many French-speaking Belgians flock to the coast during this period.
This year, the extended weekend and predicted sunny weather are contributing to higher booking figures at the start of the holiday compared to the previous year.
The average occupancy rate for coastal hotels during the first week of the holiday stands at 55%, with peaks expected to reach 75% over the 1 May long weekend. Westtoer forecasts that the good weather predictions will lead to additional bookings at the coast.
