Around sixty lawyers are participating in the third edition of the “Legal Clinic” this Saturday, organised by the Young Bar Association of Brussels (CJBB).
Volunteer lawyers will be available by phone from 09:00 to 16:00 to offer citizens free initial legal guidance. The event, co-organised with the French Order of Lawyers of the Brussels Bar, aims to show the public that “lawyers are accessible.”
Throughout the day, citizens can call “02 882 40 00” to receive free and anonymous advice from lawyers specialising in various legal fields.
Audrey Despontin, President of the CJBB, noted that during previous editions, common inquiries included divorce, inheritance, neighbour disputes, and landlord-tenant issues. There were also questions about municipal tax disputes and minor criminal offences.
“This initiative is a genuine bridge between lawyers and society,” emphasised Despontin, highlighting its role in supporting those in need.
The third edition aims to reach a broader audience, including those hesitant to visit a law office due to cost concerns. “People who don’t qualify for legal aid can also call us,” added Despontin.
Inspired by the “Legal Clinic” from the Young Bar of Montreal, this edition will occur simultaneously in both cities. In the previous event, over 10,000 calls were handled.
