The lifeless body of a man was discovered at around 3:30 on Sunday night in the Place des Franchises, in the Guillemins administrative district of Liège.
Initial findings suggest that the victim had been shot with a firearm. One bullet hit him in the leg and a second, fatal bullet perforated his side. The emergency services attempted to resuscitate the victim, but to no avail.
The identity of the deceased, who was not carrying any documents, has not yet been formally established. The Federal Police's Victim Identification Unit (DVI) was called in.
A magistrate from the Liège public prosecutor's office, an examining magistrate, a forensic pathologist and the forensic science laboratory arrived at the scene on Sunday morning.
No information has yet been released about the precise circumstances of the death. No suspects have yet been arrested.
An autopsy on the victim's body is scheduled for Monday.
