The rail connection between Ottignies and Brussels-Schuman stations is suspended until 5 May due to works on the future Regional Express Network (GEN) around the capital, the rail manager Infrabel confirmed on Monday.
The track work began on 26 April and will last nine days. During this period, InterCity trains are being rerouted via Leuven, and replacement buses are deployed for local trains in Brussels to maintain service.
SNCB/NMBS advises travellers to plan their journeys carefully and regularly check the travel planner via the app or website.
The project aims to connect the new line to existing tracks through a network of switches. Construction trains will be used to deposit hundreds of tonnes of ballast between Watermael-Boitsfort stations. Additionally, improvements are being made to railway safety systems, fire detection, and water supply at Boitsfort station.
"In mid-June, trains will be able to use all four tracks on half of the route, specifically between Watermael and the La Hulpe station entrance," said Infrabel.
