Solar panels produced almost enough electricity to meet the entire demand in Belgium on Sunday afternoon, according to Joannes Laveyne, a postdoctoral researcher in electrical energy at Ghent University.

Between 13:00 and 14:00 on Sunday 27 April, electricity prices fell sharply to -€266 per megawatt-hour due to an electricity surplus.

During this period, solar panels alone generated seven gigawatts of electricity. Meanwhile, households and businesses consumed eight gigawatts.
