The Arlon Correctional Court sentenced a man to six months in prison on Monday for breaking into a trailer parked in Hondelange (Luxembourg province) and stealing Kinder Surprise chocolates.
The incident occurred overnight on 25 October 2022, according to the Deputy Public Prosecutor. The man, with no known address in Belgium, broke into a trailer from the Ferrero factory in Arlon. The trailer was parked at a rest area in Hondelange where the driver, en route to Austria, had stopped for the night.
The thief – born in 1999 – stole chocolates, specifically boxes of Kinder Surprise, according to the prosecution.
Although the theft happened in autumn 2022, the suspect was only identified and arrested in 2024. His fingerprints were found at the crime scene, but they were not linked to him until he was taking a flight at Brussels Airport.
The prosecution had requested a 15-month prison sentence, but the court decided that a six-month sentence was a fair punishment.
