The animated film 'Flow,' a French-Belgian-Latvian co-production and Oscar winner, was awarded the Lux Audience Award by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy on Tuesday.
The film, which features no dialogue, tells the story of a black cat navigating a flooded world devoid of human life.
Competing with 'Flow' were four other films: 'Animal' by Greek director Sofia Exarchou, 'Dahomey' by French director Mati Diop, 'Intercepted' by Ukrainian filmmaker Oksana Karpovych, and 'Julie keeps quiet' by Belgian director Leonardo van Dijl. Each film addresses social issues with striking artistic expression, highlighting Europe's best cinematic achievements, noted the Parliament.
The winner was determined by votes from the public and MEPs. This year, nearly 33,000 ratings, ranging from one to five stars, were received from European citizens and MEPs.
'Flow' has previously won the Audience Award at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in 2024, the César, the Oscar, and the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature in 2025.
