A person was injured in a shooting on Saturday evening in the Brussels district of Anderlecht, according to the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, confirming reports by local media outlet BX1.
The victim was found in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, and their life is not in danger.
BX1 reported that gunfire occurred around 23:50 on Ruysdael Street in Anderlecht. Later, a wounded man was discovered on Heyvaert Street in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean and was reportedly hospitalised with three chest wounds.
“There were indeed new gunshots on Saturday night,” stated Rym Kechiche, spokesperson for the public prosecutor’s office. “Police were called following gunfire on Ruysdael Street. A weapon was found on site. An injured person was located about a kilometre away. He is not in life-threatening condition.”
The public prosecutor’s office has ordered an initial investigation, involving the federal judicial police’s laboratory and the appointment of an expert. A forensic doctor has also been assigned.
No further comments will be made by the prosecutor’s office to protect the investigation’s integrity.
