The wild bluebells of Hallerbos should start blooming in the second half of April, announced Natuur en Bos, the Flemish agency which oversees parks, on Monday.
The forest, located just to the south of Brussels in Flemish Brabant, is famed for its bluebells that attract thousands of visitors from around the world every year. When in full bloom, the delicate purple flowers cover the forest in a purple carpet.
40 volunteers will be recruited by Halle council and Natuur en Bos to manage the visitors and ensure they don't stray from the designated walking paths.
In addition, the regional authorities ask that visitors don't travel to the woods by car but use alternative forms of transport. A free shuttlebus will run between Halle station and the wood on 16 April, 17, 18, 23, 24 during the Easter break. The service will also run on 30 April and 1 May, from 09:00 to 20:00.

According to the local administration, 17,000 people used the free shuttle service in 2019. Free bike rentals from the station will also be available from 16 April to 1 May.
It can be difficult to predict exactly when the flowers will bloom, especially with fluctuating spring weather. Natuur en Boos have therefore set up snapshots of the forest to give an idea of how the flowers are doing.
